FEW MORE HOURS TO JOIN!
A beginner's guide to hand-building pottery with personality.
Turn your brain off, get your hands dirty and have fun with clay!
You don't need to be "naturally gifted"
You just need the desire to create and the courage to begin!
I used to watch other people make beautiful ceramic items and assume they had some kind of natural gift! But truly, most of the pottery journey is just figuring it out as you go. You make wonky things at first, get better slowly, and (if you let yourself) have fun along the way. For me, the wonkiness in the beginning is what helped me find my own (wonky) style!
I walk you through sculpting and hand-building from the very start. Together we will sculpt noses, eyes, mouths and slowly move towards more functional items like mugs, slab dishes and coil pots.
You don't need a wheel, a kiln or anything fancy. Just clay, a few simple tools, and your hands!
The best part of pottery?
When you get out of your head and into the process! When you reach a flow state and start having fun!
Instead of worrying whether your piece looks "good enough," you start experimenting. You follow your curiosity and begin to play. Because the world doesn't just need more beautiful art. It needs more ordinary people like you and me who create simply because it brings us joy.
To me, that is what art is all about. And finding that joy is what *this course* is all about.
When I first started making face mugs, they certainly didn't look the way they do today. It took years of experimenting, making plenty of awkward-looking pieces, and learning what felt true to me. Somewhere along the way, I stopped trying to recreate what I admired in other people's work and started making pieces that felt like my own.
Your pieces don't need to look like mine. In fact, I hope they don't. I hope this course helps you discover what your art looks like.
At the end of the course you will...
Sculpt with Personality
Noses, eyes, mouths, and expression. We start with the "Stone Face" and break it down feature by feature, so by the end, you can sculpt a face (or whatever else your creative heart desires) on anything!
Master the Fundamentals
Build a solid foundation using core hand-building techniques. From the "Scratch & Attach" rule to mastering pinch pots, coils, and slabs, you’ll learn the repeatable processes needed to create sturdy, functional pottery.
Navigate the Kiln or Air-Dry
You'll learn how to paint and seal air-dry pieces, plus an extensive intro into kiln-fired ceramics. By the end, your work will actually look finished and be durable.

Course preview
This lesson is from Module 3, where we build our first sculpture together: the "Stone Face". Specifically the eyes!! Honestly, eyes are my favorite feature to sculpt because they're where all the personality really shows up (no eyes = no character).
Scratch & attach is the technique that makes sculpture possible. We will get you comfortable with it by building our faces one feature at a time. Once you've mastered attachments and shaping, you'll have the confidence to start experimenting and bringing your own ideas (and characters!) to life!

Bonus Module
What's next?
Most beginner courses drop you off right when things start clicking. So I added a bonus module at the end, with everything I wish I'd known once I caught the clay bug for real.
What's inside:
- Developing your own style (not just copying what you see online)
- What to actually do with the "bad" pots (spoiler: don't throw them away! Wonky pots are often the ones with the MOST character!)
- Finding a clay community near you (kiln shares, studios, local potters)
- When it's worth investing in real equipment like wheels and kilns (and when it's not)
- An intro to selling your work, for when you're ready
